The Mitsubishi Delica D:5 was manufactured and released in Japan in 2007. Mitsubishi Motors announced this next generation of 'Minivan' would be called the Delica D:5 and it was based on a prototype first exhibited in the Tokyo Motor show in 2005. It is an eight seater, that features Mitsibishi's AWC four wheel drive system, this is the same system as the brands Outlander SUV. It also has the INVEC-III continuously variable transmission, coupled to a 2.4 L MIVEC inline-four engine. Based on a new global GS platform, the new Delica features Mitsubishi's next generation RISE safety body.

The Delica D:5 is extremely stylish looking if a little quirky and a much more modern design all round. It is certainly a great alternative and rival to any mainstream MPV!

From the outside it has a boxy design which is deceptively compact; the D:5 is actually 9cm shorter and 8.9cm narrower than the Ford Galaxy. It is designed with clean lines and smooth surfaces, these are combined with chunky alloys and the Hummer-style grill which really sets it's looks apart from any other vehicle.

It has a much more modern and almost futuristic centre console and it's twin dials give it a degree of character. Other endearing features are, the electric tailgate and double powered sliding rear doors, all these features are controlled from the dashboard.

The Delica D:5 makes for a very comfortable drive and it's high stance gives great visibility as well! As landscape photographer Tom Heaton stated in his recent film in one of our Delica D5's, 'It feels like I'm driving a Volkswagon Golf'.

The D5 is now our flagship vehicle.

Mitsubishi Delica Space Gear

The Mitsubishi Delica was manufactured and released in Japan in 1994. The newest Delica received a considerably more aerodynamic bodywork. This was an immensley popular vehicle and with good reason. Taking the flat floored large size wagon with ample space, seating and luxuries and mating it to a Mitsubishi Pajero engine and drivetrain. Delica Space Gears are fantastic people movers, cargo haulers,  4WD and as just a regular car to drive. The remarkably high seating position makes for superb visibility and when driving makes you feel like the king of the road.

The passenger model became the Space Gear and was designed for the domestic market. Its body specifications ranged from XR, XG, EXCEED and SUPER EXCEED. Both long and short wheel-based versions were available. It has 4 doors, 2 front doors, a sliding rear door to the left-hand side and a rear 5 door hatch. It has a front engine, with rear wheel drive layout or with super select and 4 wheel drivetrain. It's transmission is either 3- speed automatic or 5-speed manual gear box.

In 1996, the Delica was upgraded with a facelift. The upgrade was mainly cosmetic, including changes to light clusters and front body panel, it received an integrated moulded front bumper in place of the three section bullbar. The engine was also upgraded with an electronic control distribution type jet pump and an electronic sidestep was made standard on higher specification versions. Later models of the Delica included the 20th Anniversary Edition, Active Field and the Chamonix and received a final facelift in 2002.

The Delica Space Gear low roof versions can also have a dual sunroof, while high roof versions can have the crystal lite roof. They are available with either 7 or 8 seats. The seating is extremely versatile, front and second row captain's chairs are available (with side arm rests). The flat floor allows you to walk from the front seats to outside the rear tailgate if you wish. In the 7 seater versions the second row seats can swivel 180 degrees and tilt flat to make a bed with the third row. The lower part can be folded up for more room and can slide all the way forwards against the front seats making for a large cargo area. The rear seats can fold down to make a bed, fold up out of the way or be removed altogether.

The Mitsubishi Delica has the most amazing off road capability and is a truly versatile vehicle. It can be converted to accommodate a pop top and also to use LPG if required. Also a drive away awning can be used and the seats converted to sleep two comfortably when camping.
